Visual artist and photographer Magdalene Kourti captures the charm of the Greek island Naxos, showcasing its blue and white beauty. From its serene beaches to quaint cobblestone villages and unexpected street art, this Cycladic island offers a wealth of sights. Through her “Snapshots of Naxos,” she brings its allure to life.
Naxos holds a special place in my heart as it is my father’s homeland. It’s the largest of the Cycladic islands and boasts vast sandy beaches, rugged natural landscapes, towering mountains, charming villages, a blend of modern and traditional art, warm and welcoming locals, and delicious cuisine.
Magdalene has been passionate about photography, particularly documentary wedding photography, since 2009. She initially studied Business Administration and Marketing before pursuing Fine Arts at UAL – Wimbledon College of Arts. She also earned a Master’s degree in 2D and 3D digital imaging and animation from Metropolitan University in London.
As a visual artist, Magdalene has been involved in numerous exhibitions and experimental short film festivals. She has received accolades, including distinctions from the BBC and an award from Adobe at a digital imaging festival in Australia. Her latest exhibition, featuring a collection of paintings, was held in 2017.
Her background as a fine artist, video artist, and single mother of three has deeply influenced her career and photography style. Her method centers on unobtrusively observing her surroundings, capturing the light and the day’s rhythm to convey energy and emotions. She aims to transport viewers to the very moments she captures.
For the past 20 years, Magdalene has been living in Rhodes, having left Athens. She covers events across Greece and Cyprus and dedicates part of her time to travel photography.
