Exploring Sarlat: A Journey through Time and Charm

We are slowly and somewhat reluctantly heading northwest on our road trip through France. The silver lining is that our route will take us through the Dordogne region, which we absolutely adore. Breakfast is a delightful petit pain au chocolat in Cadillac (yes, related to the car brand in a roundabout way), lunch in Bergerac, and dinner in Sarlat.

Each of these cities is stunning, especially Sarlat, which seems to glow when the sun hits its limestone houses. The center of Sarlat is car-free, so after you manage to squeeze your car into a tiny parking spot, you can wander and enjoy your evening.

Street musicians fill the air with music, artists offer to sketch portraits, and shops stay open late, tempting you with local delicacies like patés, truffles, wine, and an array of other tantalizing treats.

Sarlat is truly a gem, albeit not a hidden one. It features surprising views, hidden springs, and an overall good vibe. If you wish to explore further, consider a wine tour in the Cahors region or a visit to Rocamadour, which is definitely worth the detour.
