We arrived in Dijon yesterday just in time for Bastille Day festivities. Even though it was a holiday with most offices and shops closed, a few stores lured passersby with summer sale prices, and all the bars and cafes were open and bustling!
As people waited for dinner, they gathered at cafes to enjoy an aperitif while engaging in people-watching. We managed to snag a table at a cozy, quiet restaurant and savored lamb chops and salade périgourdine, a salad featuring smoked duck and foie gras. We felt slightly guilty about the foie gras, but it was all washed down with a good, red Burgundy wine.
Later, we joined the locals at the lake for a spectacular fireworks show. The sky lit up for over an hour, and we enjoyed the company of friendly Frenchmen around us.
